The Dmax has built a reputation in Australia as a reliable workhouse with a solid drive-train. Featuring one of the variants of the 4J engine series, the 4 cylinder motor provides consistent performance and ample power for most applications. Newer models have gradually caught up to their competitors on the technology front, implementing a host of new and improved driver assist and vehicle safety systems in the new 20/21 model. Any new model Dmax tray needs to be compatible with the rear cross traffic system.
Either the 1650mm or 1850mm dual cab tray can be selected because when referencing the photos below, notice the headboard finishes clear in front of the rear axle. This means a full size canopy is also possible, which opens up the potential for a tradie style setup and a 3rd rear access door. Minimizing rear overhang should always be a consideration that is acted upon if practical, but compared to other models the Dmax fairs quite well and can handle a full size canopy if required for a certain application.
